FREE SOFTWARE SECTION

Free software means more than simply free as in cost, it gives users FREEDOM, these freedoms are set out by the Free Software Foundation and are also found on GNU.ORG

On the left hand side of this page I have given some links to useful free software, the movies are just that free and in some cases created using free software, they are an example of the high quality that people can produce the star trek new voyages are free to download and give to friends are of high quality.

At present I use Ubuntu 11.04 along with Libreoffice and other free software tools. I have found for the most part I have no need to buy operating systems or expensive office software. The advantage with Libreoffice is that it uses recognised open standards, this means that I am not at the mercy of the producer who may suddently decide to change the file specifications and or support and leave users with no choice to upgrade.

There is a LOT of software out there available for both Windows and Linux, which is one advantage of free software its multi platform, if you are using windows a good place to start would be The Open Disc

Which is now a DVD full of free software for windows. So doubles up as a really good showcase for free software.
